  MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA

MAY 9, 2023

 

 

 

 

The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hill and the following were recorded as present:

John Smith was present as city attorney and Whitney Pitchford as secretary for the meeting.

 

Approval of minutes: On motion of Councilmember Taunton and a second by Councilmember Hughey, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the April 25, 2023 work session. On motion of Councilmember Hughey and a second by Councilmember Godwin, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the April 25, 2023 regular city council meeting.

Item 1. The TRA line item 01-514-5219 was discussed. Councilmember Carr explained that the TRA needed $3600 for property maintenance this year and this was left out of the budget. Councilmember Godwin made a motion to suspend the rules, seconded by Councilmember Taunton. Upon a rollcall vote, the motion passed unanimously. Councilmember Godwin made a motion to approve adding $3600 to TRA line item 01-514-5219, seconded by Councilmember Taunton. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Item 2: Mayor and Council discussed a change order for the gas line project. This change order will cost between $36,000-$56,000 and will take care of the gas main mapping. Councilmember Godwin made a motion to approve the change order, seconded by Councilmember Taunton. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Mayor’s Reports:

  • The ABC liquor license for Tallassee Sunoco name changing was discussed. Councilmember Taunton made a motion to approve this, seconded by Councilmember Carr. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.
  • Jerry Cunningham asked permission to use City Hall grounds June 17th for Summerfest. Councilmember Hughey made a motion to approve the request to use City Hall grounds June 17th, seconded by Councilmember Taunton. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.
  • Tallassee CDC is doing a BBQ fundraiser this Saturday.
  • Contacted by Alabama Power-we can work with them to install security cameral on light poles. If anyone wants to help us with this, that would be great!
  • Strategic Plan should be ready soon.
  • Chief Buce found one Maverick ready since the vehicles had to be ordered but we will have to wait on the other two.

Council Reports

Ward 1:  Trash cans are there for a reason. Trash goes inside of the container. Only things in the container will be picked up. If you need an extra trashcan, order one.

Ward 7: There was no IDB meeting this week. No quorum.

There being no further business before the council, and upon motion of Councilmember Taunton and a second by Councilmember Carr, all councilmembers present voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:06 p.m.
