  MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA

JULY 11, 2023

 

 

 

 

The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hill and the following were recorded as present:

John Smith was present as city attorney and Whitney Pitchford as secretary for the meeting.

 

Approval of minutes: On motion of Councilmember Carr and a second by Councilmember Hall, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the June 13, 2023 work session. On motion of Councilmember Hughey and a second by Councilmember Taunton, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the June 13, 2023 regular city council meeting.

Item 1. The girls 8U All Starts are going to the World Series July 12-16th. Councilmember Taunton made a motion to donate $1000 to them from account 01-514-5225, seconded by Councilmember Brown. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Item 2: There were no bids received for the silent auction. Councilmember Taunton made a motion to extend the silent auction for another month, seconded by Councilmember Godwin. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Item 3: FY22 PHMSA Gas Improvement Engineering Agreement was discussed. This is part of the 9.7 million grant that we received. Councilmember Godwin made a motion to approve the engineering agreement, seconded by Councilmember Hughey. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Item 4: Removed from agenda.

Mayor’s Reports:

  • Letter of intent for the FY23 PHMSA Grant. Councilmember Brown made a motion to approve the letter of intent for the FY23 PHMSA Grant, seconded by Councilmember Hall. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.
  • James Garner gave an update on the gas project.
  • Strategic Plan meeting will be July 25th after the council meeting.
  • The 13U Babe Ruth All Stars are going to Arkansas for regionals. Councilmember Brown made a motion to donate $1000 to them from account 01-514-5225, seconded by Councilmember Hughey. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.
  • Budget meeting-August 8th at 3:30PM.
  • Eric Jones talked to the DOT about the bridge and they will hopefully be done in 2-3 months depending on the weather.

Council Reports

Ward 1: Councilmember Taunton said that he will be going from business to business to get permission for our Police to write tickets for unauthorized handicap parking.

Ward 3: Councilmember Carr said there were 3 positions up for reappointment on the TRA Board. Councilmember Taunton made a motion to reappoint Steve Miller to the TRA, seconded by Councilmember Mosher. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.  Councilmember Hall made a motion to reappoint Dylan Daniel to the TRA, seconded by Councilmember Taunton. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously. Councilmember Brown made a motion to reappoint Gregg Brinsfield to the TRA, seconded by Councilmember Taunton. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

There being no further business before the council, and upon motion of Councilmember Taunton and a second by Councilmember Hall, all councilmembers present voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:14 p.m.
