MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA

MARCH 10, 2020

 

 

 

 

The Mayor Pro Tem and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Pro Tem and the following were recorded as present:

John Smith was present as city attorney and City Clerk Whitney Moon acted as clerk for the meeting.

 

Mayor Pro Tem Godwin presented the minutes of the council work session held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020. There were no additions or changes. Upon motion of Council Member Taunton and a second by Council Member Hill, the minutes were approved by a unanimous vote.

 

Mayor Pro Tem Godwin presented the minutes of the regular council meeting held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020. There were no additions or changes. Upon motion of Council Member Brown and second by Council Member Carr, the minutes were approved by a unanimous vote.

 

Item 1: Bids for the library were discussed during the work session. Council Member Hill made a motion to accept the bid for $37,930 from Claude Thrash, seconded by Council Member Carr. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

 

Item 2: Bids for the Recreational Center were tabled during the work session due to questions about asbestos.

 

Item 3: Ordinance amending Ordinance Nos. 2003-390, 2010-478, and 2017-532 to establish certain fees for natural gas connections was introduced. Council Member Stough made a motion to suspend the rules, seconded by Council Member Taunton. Upon a roll call vote, the motion was approved by a unanimous vote. Council Member Taunton made a motion to approve the Ordinance, seconded by Council Member Hill. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously. Ordinance 2020-563 was adopted.

 

Item 4: Ordinance amending Ordinance Nos. 2003-391, 2010-479, and 2017-533 to establish certain fees for water connections was introduced. Council Member Taunton made a motion to suspend the rules, seconded by Council Member Carr. Upon a roll call vote, the motion was approved by a unanimous vote. Council Member Hill made a motion to approve the Ordinance, seconded by Council Member Taunton. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously. Ordinance 2020-562 was adopted.

 

Item 5: Proclamation for Fair Housing was presented by Mayor Pro Tem Godwin. Council Member Carr made a motion to adopt the proclamation, seconded by Council Member Brown. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

 

Item 6: Larry Rodgers discussed HDD Broadband Inc. during the work session.

 

Item 7: Resolution concerning a public nuisance at 305 Jordan Avenue. Andy Coker discussed this property. Council Member Wilson made a motion to adopt the Resolution, seconded by Council Member Carr. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously. Resolution 2020-632 was adopted.

 

Item 8: Mayor Pro Tem’s Reports: Nothing to report.

 

Item 9: Council Reports: Council Members Taunton, Carr, Wilson, and Stough had nothing to report. Council Member Hill just wanted to mention that everyone was doing a good job. Council Member Brown mentioned there being an opening for an at large position on the Parks and Rec Board. Council Member Brown made a motion to nominate Angie Boatwright for this position, seconded by Council Member Wilson. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

 

Item 10: There being no further business before the Council, upon a motion made by Council Member Hill and a second by Council Member Carr, all Council Members present voted to adjourn the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 6:14 p.m.
