MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA

OCTOBER 11, 2022

 

 

 

 

The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hill and the following were recorded as present:

John Smith was present as city attorney and Whitney Pitchford as secretary for the meeting.

 

Approval of minutes: On motion of Councilmember Hughey and a second by Councilmember Brown, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the September 27, 2022 work session. On motion of Councilmember Hughey and a second by Councilmember Carr, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the September 27, 2022 regular city council meeting.

Item 1. Chief Buce swore in the newest Police Academy graduate, Andre Amaya.

Item 2. Councilmember Taunton made a motion to move the November 8th council meeting to November 7th due to the election, seconded by Councilmember Brown. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Item 3. Councilmember Carr made a motion to cancel the November 22nd and December 27th council meeting, seconded by Councilmember Taunton. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Item 4. Mayor Hill read a Proclamation recognizing Bill Goss. Councilmember Hughey made a motion to approve the Proclamation, seconded by Councilmember Taunton. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Item 5. James Garner explained the water issues on North Ann Avenue. James will get a quote/firm number together.

Item 6. Mayor Hill discussed the Home Integrated Solutions quote for the DYB. Cameras are needed due to vandalism. The league said they would pay for half of the $3026.98 quote and asked the City to pay for the other half.  Councilmember Brown made a motion to approve the City paying for $1513.49 of the Home Integrated Solutions quote for cameras out of the 01-512-5283 account, seconded by Councilmember Taunton. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Mayor’s Reports:

  1. Second Congressional District Municipal Association meeting and dinner is Tuesday, November 1st from 5:30 to 6:30PM in Dothan. The cost is $30/person. Let Whitney know if you want to attend.
  2. Senior Center-The Tuesday card players lock up supplies provided by the City and do not allow the senior center access to these supplies. Councilmember Taunton made a motion for Mayor Hill to send the Tuesday card players a letter letting them know that the City will no longer be able to provide help to them and they need to give the senior center immediate access to any supplies that they have locked in the senior center, seconded by Councilmember Brown. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.
  3. Fall Festival is this weekend.
  4. Elmore County cleanup is this weekend. There will be a dumpster at City Hall.
  5. Mayor Hill asked the Council to consider letting non-essential personnel have a half day on November 23 and December 22. Councilmember Brown made a motion to let non-essential employees off of work at 12 noon on November 23 and December 22, seconded by Councilmember Hughey. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Council Reports

Ward 1: Ray Sides passed away. He will be missed by so many.

Ward 5: Rec Board meeting October 24th at 6PM.

Ward 7: Councilmember Hughey made a suggestion that he take Councilmember Mosher’s place on the IDB board and she replace him on the Library Board. All Councilmembers were okay with this.

There being no further business before the council, and upon motion of Councilmember Taunton and a second by Councilmember Carr, all councilmembers present voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:13 p.m.
