MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA

OCTOBER 26, 2021

 

 

 

 

The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hammock and the following were recorded as present:

John Smith was present as city attorney and Whitney Pitchford as secretary for the meeting.

 

Mayor Hammock presented the minutes of the council work session held on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. There were no additions or changes. Upon motion of Councilmember Hill and second by Councilmember Hall, the minutes were approved by a unanimous vote.

 

Mayor Hammock presented the minutes of the regular council meeting held on Tuesday, September 14, 2021. There were no additions or changes. Upon motion of Councilmember Carr and second by Councilmember Hill, the minutes were approved by a unanimous vote.

 

Item 1: Jason Moran with Tallapoosa County EMA presented Hazard Mitigation Plan Resolution. Councilmember Godwin made a motion to approve the Resolution, seconded by Councilmember Hughey, the motion was approved by a unanimous vote.

 

Item 2: Discussed during the work session.

 

Item 3: The possible surplus of the piano in the courtroom was discussed. Councilmember Hill made a motion to surplus the piano, seconded by Councilmember Taunton. The motion was approved by a unanimous vote.

 

Item 4: Richard and Ruby Collier discussed a donation of $5000 to the Fire Department for PPE. Councilmember Hill made a motion to accept the $5000 donation from the Colliers, seconded by Councilmember Taunton. The motion was approved by a unanimous vote.

 

Item 5: A Proclamation for School Choice Week was discussed. There was no motion. No action was taken.

 

Item 6: The authorization for electrical and plumbing inspections was discussed since we currently do not have a building inspector. Councilmember Godwin made a motion to authorize the city to hire for electrical and plumbing inspections during this interim period, seconded by Councilmember Hall. Upon a vote the motion was passed unanimously.

 

Item 7: Griffin Pritchard passed out updated for grants that he is currently working on to Councilmembers during the work session.

 

Item 8: Mayor Hammock reported on a number of additional items.

  1. Mack Daughtry, the Elmore County Revenue Commissioner, stated that they were going to donate $400,000 of their ARP funds to the City of Tallassee for the Rehab of the Downtown Tank project that will cost $534,000.
  2. No State vehicles coming out-no chips due to COVID.
  3. SEGAS meeting in a few weeks. Natural gas prices up 30%.

 

Item 9: Council Reports:

  1. Councilmember Hill said there would be a finance committee meeting November 8th at 1PM. Councilmember Hill made a motion to surplus the 2021 Chevy, seconded by Councilmember Taunton. The motion was approved by a unanimous vote. This money needs to be put back in the utilities, where it came from.
  2. Councilmember Carr said that there will be a TRA meeting November 8th at 6PM.
  3. Councilmember Hall-City wide clean up November 6th from 8AM-11AM.
  4. Councilmember Godwin-asked for an update on the Hotel. John Smith said that the city had already declared the building a nuisance. We need to get a cost to demolish the building and make a decision after getting bids.
  5. Councilmember Hughey made a motion to go into executive session, seconded by Councilmember Hill and a vote in favor by all. Councilmember Hill made a motion to exit executive session, seconded by Councilmember Taunton and a vote in favor by all.

 

Item 10: There being no further business before the council, and upon motion of Councilmember Hill and second of Councilmember Carr, the council unanimously voted to adjourn the meeting at 7:06 p.m.
