The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hammock and the following were recorded as present:

John Smith was present as city attorney and City Clerk Whitney Moon acted as clerk for the meeting.

 

Mayor Hammock presented the minutes of the council work session held on Tuesday, November 26, 2019. There were no additions or changes. Upon motion of Council Member Taunton and a second by Council Member Wilson, the minutes were approved by a unanimous vote.

 

Mayor Hammock presented the minutes of the regular council meeting held on Tuesday, November 26, 2019. There were no additions or changes. Upon motion of Council Member Carr and second by Council Member Hill, the minutes were approved by a unanimous vote.

 

Item 1: The addition of the 22nd sworn officer position was discussed. Council Member Godwin made a motion to approve this addition to the police department, seconded by Council Member Taunton. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

 

Item 2: Mayor’s Reports: Mayor Hammock discussed a Resolution to use Frazier Lanier to restructure a bond in the work session. The options are to take the savings through the years and lower the payments, not make any bond payments in 2020 for this bond, or we can get a refund check. Council Member Godwin made a motion to approve the Resolution authorizing Frazier Lanier to start the process of restructuring the bond, seconded by Council Member Hill. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

 

There has been interest in purchasing the Girl Scout Hut. Mayor Hammock and Andy Coker will see what condition the Hut is in and if it would be possible to move it. Mayor Hammock will give an update. Project Progress Report was handed out during the work session. The Senior Center Christmas party will be December 12th at 6PM. There is a safety awareness class at God’s congregational holiness church December 14th at 12PM. Tallassee Community Development Corporation is teaming up with Urban Tails December 14th from 4PM-6PM for the Santa Paws event, raising money for Elmore County humane society and Lake Martin Animal Sanctuary. December 15th from 2PM-5PM there will be an open house to walk through seven gables. The $5 donation will go to ACTS. Wall Street Senior Center will have their Christmas party December 19th at 6PM. Council Member Stough will have heart surgery on December 19th, keep him in your thoughts and prayers. There will not be a council meeting on December 24th, the next council meeting will be on January 14th. Mayor Hammock may not be at this council meeting because he is scheduled for surgery on January 8th. Council Member Godwin will run the meeting if Mayor Hammock is not there.

 

Item 3: Council Reports: Council Members Taunton, Hill, Carr, Brown, and Godwin had nothing to report. Council Member Wilson wanted to thank everyone for their help with the Christmas parade. Council Member Stough wanted to announce that February 7-9 Tallassee High School cheerleaders will be competing in a national competition in Orlando, Florida. Council Member Stough wanted the finance committee to meet about possibly making a donation to help them.

 

Item 4: There being no further business before the Council, upon a motion made by Council Member Taunton and a second by Council Member Hill, all Council Members present voted to adjourn the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 6:12 p.m.
