  MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA

JUNE 9, 2025

The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Monday, June 9, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hill and the following were recorded as present:

Lane Knight was present as city attorney and Whitney Pitchford as secretary for the meeting.

Approval of minutes: On motion of Councilmember Hughey and a second by Councilmember Hall, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the May 12, 2025 work session. On motion of Councilmember Hughey and a second by Councilmember Godwin, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the May 12, 2025 regular city council meeting.

Mayor Hill then called the council’s attention to the agenda and the following occurred.

Item 1. Notice of the election. Qualifying starts June 10, 2025 until June 24, 2025. Councilmember Godwin made a motion to approve the notice of election, seconded by Councilmember Hall. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.  

Item 2. Time Donation. Mayor Hill reviewed time donations for Laura Alderton and Heather Sayers. Councilmember Carr made a motion to approve the donation of 40 hours to Laura Alderton, seconded by Councilmember Taunton. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously. Councilmember Taunton made a motion to approve the donation of 20 hours to Heather Sayers, seconded by Councilmember Brown. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Item 3. The Sounds & Sirens event is June 14th. Come out and support the fire department.  

Item 4. Summerfest June 21st and they are requesting to use fireworks. Councilmember Hall made a motion to approve the use of fireworks, seconded by Councilmember Brown. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Item 5. ACTS purchased their own building, which limits what the City can provide. We will no longer be able to cut the grass, the power bill is going to be more than what we budgeted and we are giving them free water and gas. Just wanted the council to be aware of this and be thinking about it for the upcoming budget.    

Mayor’s Reports:  

*June 16th– RAA Project will start.

*Resolution concerning a Public Nuisance at 1514 Gilmer Avenue was discussed. This is the old Pizza Hut location and the grass needs to be cut. Councilmember Taunton made a motion to approve the Resolution and cut the grass through the summer, seconded by Councilmember Hall. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously. Resolution 2025-247 was adopted.   

Council Reports:

Ward 3: Thanks to the Police Department for the extra patrol!

Ward 4: Thanks to the Chief for addressing complaints quickly.

Ward 7: Westside Mill-possible grant to clean up and restore the bridge. July 28th public hearing.  

There being no further business before the council, and upon a motion by Councilmember Hall and a second by Councilmember Taunton, will all councilmembers voting in favor, the council meeting was adjourned at 6:06 PM.
