MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA

MAY 23, 2023

 

 

 

 

The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hill and the following were recorded as present:

John Smith was present as city attorney and Whitney Pitchford as secretary for the meeting.

 

Approval of minutes: On motion of Councilmember Godwin and a second by Councilmember Hughey, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the May 9, 2023 work session. On motion of Councilmember Hall and a second by Councilmember Taunton, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the May 9, 2023 regular city council meeting.

Item 1. The July 4th holiday was discussed. Mayor Hill asked Council members their thoughts on giving city employees Monday, July 3 off in addition to July 4th since its been done in the past. Councilmember Godwin made a motion to approve the July 3rd holiday for city employees, seconded by Councilmember Hughey. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Item 2: The Retail Beer and Retail table wine license for Five Points Food Mart LLC was discussed. This is just changing the name. Councilmember Hall made a motion to approve the Retail Beer and Retail table wine license for Five Points Food Mart LLC, seconded by Councilmember Taunton. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Item 3: Removed from agenda.

Mayor’s Reports:

  • The June 27th Council meeting was discussed. Both Mayor Hill and the City Clerk Whitney will be out of town. Councilmember Hall made a motion to cancel the June 27th council meeting, seconded by Councilmember Carr. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.
  • Councilmember Hall made a motion to let all non-essential city workers leave at 2PM on Friday, May 26th for the Memorial Day Holiday, seconded by Councilmember Carr. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.
  • We received the ADEM inspection of the sewer lagoon and there were no deficiencies noted.
  • Retail Strategies will be here at the June 13th work session.
  • Joe Sumner sent the draft of the Strategic Plan and will be setting up a call to review.
  • Councilmember Taunton made a motion to surplus the vehicles on the list (attached), seconded by Councilmember Brown. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

No reports.

There being no further business before the council, and upon motion of Councilmember Carr and a second by Councilmember Taunton, all councilmembers present voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:05 p.m.
