MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA

JULY 25, 2023

 

 

 

 

The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hill and the following were recorded as present:

John Smith was present as city attorney and Whitney Pitchford as secretary for the meeting.

 

Approval of minutes: On motion of Councilmember Hughey and a second by Councilmember Hall, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the July 11, 2023 work session. On motion of Councilmember Taunton and a second by Councilmember Carr, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the July 11, 2023 regular city council meeting.

Item 1. Rezoning for R2 conditional at the McGauehey’s residence 216 Orchard Drive was discussed. Councilmember Taunton made a motion to approve the rezoning of 216 Orchard Drive to R2 conditional, seconded by Councilmember Hughey. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Item 2: A Resolution concerning updating building codes was discussed. Councilmember Godwin made a motion to approve the resolution, seconded by Councilmember Hall. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously. Resolution 2023-236 was adopted.

Item 3: The Retail Strategies Contract was discussed. Councilmember Godwin made a motion to approve the contract for $30,000, seconded by Councilmember Carr. Upon a vote, the motion passed. Councilmember Hughey voted Nay.

Mayor’s Reports:

  • Saturday, July 29th from 10-2 there will be a Community Pool Party at the City pool. There will be free pizza and snow cones! Come out, everyone is invited.

Council Reports

Ward 1: Everyone, please pickup trash if you see it outside.

Ward 2: Thanks to the City workers for taking care of any issues immediately.

There being no further business before the council, and upon motion of Councilmember Taunton and a second by Councilmember Hall, all councilmembers present voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:12 p.m.
