MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA

JANUARY 23, 2024

 

 

 

 

The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hill and the following were recorded as present:

John Smith was present as city attorney and Whitney Pitchford as secretary for the meeting.

 

Approval of minutes: On motion of Councilmember Taunton and a second by Councilmember Brown, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the January 9, 2024 work session. On motion of Councilmember Carr and a second by Councilmember Hall, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the January 9, 2024 regular city council meeting.

Item 1. Eric Jones discussed the RFP for the new fire truck. After reviewing the bids, they want to use EEP as the vendor. Councilmember Taunton made a motion to approve EEP as the vendor, seconded by Councilmember Godwin. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Item 2: A resolution concerning Rebuild Alabama Transportation Plan was discussed. Councilmember Godwin made a motion to approve the resolution, seconded by Councilmember Hughey. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously. Resolution 2024-238 was adopted.

Mayor’s Reports:

  • Special recognition of the Fire Department and Police Department. Chief Buce and Lt. Howard recognized Corporal Bryant and Officer Saint for their efforts in the December 31, 2023 house fire. Chief Jones presented Captain Dav Shirley, Captain Travis Jones, Captain Rick Jones, and Brody Goodman with an award for their efforts in the December 31, 2023 house fire. Joshua Ward was also recognized for his efforts performing CPR that night.
  • Update on the Downtown project.
  • Ribbon cutting for the new Jordanville Park tomorrow at 2PM. Everyone is invited.
  • Austin Jones with Lee County EMA recognized the Fire Department and thanked them for allowing them to borrow a side by side for the Auburn University games.
  • Thanks to the utility guys for their hard work!
  • Update on CDBG-Leslie is working on getting everything together. We have sent her everything on our part. We currently have 13 structures.

Council Reports

  • Ward 1: Thanks to the PD and FD for what you do. Thanks to your family as well.
  • Ward 2: We have the best group at the PD and FD and we are thankful and grateful.
  • Ward 3: Thankful for our first responders.
  • Ward 4: Echoing what everyone has said. We appreciate what you do.
  • Ward 5: Echoing what everyone has already said. Thankful that you run toward life changing events and not away.
  • Ward 6: Thankful that yall are willing to train and step up.
  • Ward 7: For our size city, we have exceptional FD and PD. Very thankful and appreciative.

There being no further business before the council, and upon motion of Councilmember Taunton and a second by Councilmember Carr, all councilmembers present voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:24 p.m.
