MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING
OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA
OCTOBER 22, 2024
The Mayor Pro Tempore and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Pro Tempore and the following were recorded as present:

John Smith was present as city attorney and Whitney Pitchford as secretary for the meeting.
Approval of minutes: On motion of Councilmember Hughey and a second by Councilmember Taunton, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the September 24, 2024 work session. On motion of Councilmember Taunton and a second by Councilmember Carr, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the September 24, 2024 regular city council meeting.
Item 1. Mayor Pro Tempore Godwin announced that the City was awarded up to $257,667 in Rebuild Alabama Act with a local commitment of $7667. We have the funds available in 01-506-5045. Councilmember Hall made a motion to accept the ALDOT Rebuild Alabama Act award and use funds from 01-506-5045 for the local commitment of $7667, seconded by Councilmember Taunton. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.
Item 2: Mayor Pro Tempore Godwin mentioned that Sam Knowles wanted to be reappointed to the Library Board. Councilmember Taunton made a motion to reappoint Sam Knowles to the Library Board, seconded by Councilmember Hall. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.
Item 3: Mayor Pro Tempore Godwin mentioned that Kristina Pendergrass wanted to be reappointed to the Library Board. Councilmember Hughey made a motion to reappoint Kristina Pendergrass to the Library Board, seconded by Councilmember Taunton. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.
Mayor’s Reports:
*The #5 filter went out at the filter plant. We’re waiting to hear from CDG. Councilmember Taunton declared an emergency to replace equipment for the filter, let Mayor Hill find the money and approve spending at the November 12th meeting, seconded by Councilmember Hall. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.
*Update for the Demolition Grant-10 out of the 14 houses have been torn down. They will start moving towards the 4 lane this week.
*Thanks to the Police and Fire Department for all of their hard work.
Council Reports
Ward 2: Thank you Chief! We’re very appreciative.
Ward 3: Thanks to the Police Department.
Ward 4: Trade Day turned out great. Thanks to the Chamber of Commerce for this event!
Ward 7: Thanks, Chief, for being on the radio show!
There being no further business before the council, and upon motion of Councilmember Hall and a second by Councilmember Taunton, all councilmembers present voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:07 p.m.
