MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA

OCTOBER 25, 2022

 

 

 

 

The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hill and the following were recorded as present:

John Smith was present as city attorney and Whitney Pitchford as secretary for the meeting.

 

Approval of minutes: On motion of Councilmember Hughey and a second by Councilmember Godwin, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the October 11, 2022 work session. On motion of Councilmember Hall and a second by Councilmember Hughey, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the October 11, 2022 regular city council meeting.

Item 1. The Council discussed amending the business license Ordinance to increase the issuance fee to $14. Councilmember Hughey made a motion to suspend the rules, seconded by Councilmember Godwin. Upon a roll call vote, the motion passed unanimously. Councilmember Taunton made a motion to amend the business license Ordinance to increase the issuance fee to $14, seconded by Councilmember Hughey. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Item 2. The agreement with Jackson Thornton to finish up the fiscal year was discussed. Councilmember Godwin made a motion to accept the agreement with Jackson Thornton, seconded by Councilmember Carr. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Item 3. Jeff Harrison gave an update on all ongoing projects and emailed the update to all council members.

Mayor’s Reports:

  1. Updates from the Rec Dept.

-There’s one week of soccer left with 187 players.

-Basketball registration has started and is open until November 18th.

-We will be set up in front of the Rec Center during trick or treating passing out goody bags.

-The Rec Board had a meeting last night and discussed a lot of issues and updates the department is going to try to get done in the next couple of years.

 

  1. The Mill has a facebook page that you can follow for updates.

 

  1. The agreement with Rodney Griffith-there’s no increase in cost. James is making preparations now for the North Ann updates-looking at the second week in November possibly but we will make an announcement.

 

  1. Court dates in November are November 4th and 18th.

 

  1. Reminder that our next council meeting is November 7th.

 

  1. The storm shelters will be open tonight.

 

  1. Suzanne McElroy is retiring from the IDB this month.

 

Council Reports

Ward 1: Thanks to the TPD for handling the school issue.

Ward 3: Building Department- can you check out the grass in ward 3 please.

Ward 7: Christmas Dinner at Senior Center is December 8th from 6-8.

There being no further business before the council, and upon motion of Councilmember Taunton and a second by Councilmember Godwin, all councilmembers present voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:27 p.m.
