MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA

NOVEMBER 12, 2019

 

 

 

 

The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hammock and the following were recorded as present:

John Smith was present as city attorney and City Clerk Whitney Moon acted as clerk for the meeting.

 

Mayor Hammock presented the minutes of the council work session held on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. There were no additions or changes. Upon motion of Council Member Taunton and a second by Council Member Wilson, the minutes were approved by a unanimous vote.

 

Mayor Hammock presented the minutes of the regular council meeting held on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. There were no additions or changes. Upon motion of Council Member Brown and second by Council Member Taunton, the minutes were approved by a unanimous vote.

 

Item 1: Proclamation concerning November as National Home Care and Hospice Month was presented. Council Member Taunton made a motion to adopt the proclamation, seconded by Council Member Hill. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

 

Item 2: Approve surplus of 1999 Jeep Cherokee. Upon a motion by Council Member Stough, seconded by Council Member Godwin, the motion was approved by a unanimous vote.

 

Item 3: The agreement regarding sales and use tax for the Tallassee City Schools was reviewed. Council Member Godwin made a motion to approve the Resolution, seconded by Council Member Taunton. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously. Council Member Brown did not vote on the issue since he is a school employee.

 

Item 4: Consider cancellation of December 24th scheduled council meeting. Council Member Wilson made a motion to approve the cancellation of the council meeting, seconded by Council Member Taunton. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

 

Item 5: Consider closing nonemergency for New Year’s Eve. Council Member Hill made a motion to approve the closing on New Year’s Eve for nonemergency employees, seconded by Council Member Wilson. Upon a vote, the motion was passed unanimously.

 

Item 6: General maintenance at the library was discussed in the work session. Mayor Hammock stated that there were some issues at the library and Council Member Taunton was going to meet with members of the library board to see what could be done. Council Member Taunton will give an update. Council Member Wilson wanted the finance committee to meet and discuss where the funds could possibly come from.

 

Item 7: Mayor’s Reports: January City Council and Fire Department checks will not be ready until Tuesday, January 7th because of the holiday. Community Home Health is having a ribbon cutting November 13th at 12PM in honor of their partnership with Community Hospital and Prime Home Health. Bicentennial historian Jim Phillips will be speaking at City Hall November 14th at 4PM. Mayor Hammock expressed thanks to Council Member Stough and Council Member Wilson for their help with the Veterans Day program. Mayor Hammock wanted the council members to consider going from 21-22 sworn officers, allowing us to have 3 patrol officers at all times on patrol. City of Tallassee was given an award for outstanding planning. Mayor Hammock gave an update on both the gas replacement and Downtown Tallassee.

 

Item 8: Council Reports: Council Members Taunton, Hill, Carr, Wilson, Brown, and Stough had nothing to report. Council Member Godwin wanted the finance committee to set up a time to meet.

 

Item 9: There being no further business before the Council, upon a motion made by Council Member Hill and a second by Council Member Taunton, all Council Members present voted to adjourn the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 6:16 p.m.
