MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING
OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA
DECEMBER 10, 2024
The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor and the following were recorded as present:

In the absence of City Clerk Whitney Pitchford, City Attorney John Smith acted as secretary for the meeting. Upon the meeting being called to order, the following occurred:
Following the invocation by Councilmember Godwin, the first order of business was to consider the minutes of the work session and the minutes of the city council meeting of November 12, 2024. Upon motion of Councilmember Huey and a second by Councilmember Brown, all councilmembers voted to approve the minutes of the work session as submitted. The council next turned to the minutes of the council meeting. Upon motion of Councilmember Huey and a second by Councilmember Godwin, all councilmembers voted to approve these minutes as submitted.
Mayor Hill then called the council’s attention to the agenda and the following occurred.
Item 1. Building Inspector Taylor and City Attorney Smith will work on a draft amendment to the zoning ordinance to be discussed at a later meeting so that publication and like fees associated with a rezoning will be borne by the party seeking the rezoning and not the city.
Item 2. The rezoning of property located at 2901 Gilmer Avenue from Residential I to Highway Commercial was discussed. Upon motion of Councilmember Godwin and a second by Councilmember Huey, all councilmembers voted to approve the rezoning of the described property to Highway Commercial.
Item 3. Mayor Hill asked all councilmembers to determine whether any of their constituents desired to be appointed to the Brownsfield committee. This will be further discussed at the next regular city council meeting.
Item 4. The proposed redistricting map was introduced for review and comment upon by members of the council. CARPDC will be further consulted.
Item 5. Upon motion of Councilmember Hall and a second by Councilmember Godwin, all councilmembers voted to accept as a city street Hanil Road.
Item 6. Mayor Hill announced that the city needed to rebid the new city shop to be constructed at the former airport property. The time within which to revise the current bid has passed and discussions about acquiring the existing hanger and renovating it to serve as the city’s shop were not fruitful. Upon motion of Councilmember Taunton and a second by Councilmember Hall, all councilmembers voted to rebid the new shop.
Item 7. All councilmembers complimented the city’s departments and the city’s Chamber of Commerce for their work with the Christmas parade and the overall condition of the city. Councilmember Huey congratulated Reeltown High School for winning the state 2A football championship.
There being no further business before the council, and upon a motion by Councilmember Hall and a second by Councilmember Taunton, will all councilmembers voting in favor, the council meeting was adjourned.
