MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA

MARCH 23, 2021

 

 

 

 

The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hammock and the following were recorded as present:

John Smith was present as city attorney and Whitney Pitchford as secretary for the meeting.

 

Mayor Hammock presented the minutes of the council work session held on Tuesday, March 9, 2021. There were no additions or changes. Upon motion of Council Member Taunton and second by Council Member Carr, the minutes were approved by a unanimous vote.

 

Mayor Hammock presented the minutes of the regular council meeting held on Tuesday, March 9, 2021. There were no additions or changes. Upon motion of Council Member Carr and second by Council Member Hall, the minutes were approved by a unanimous vote.

 

Item 1: Mayor Hammock presented the Sexual Assault Awareness Month Proclamation. On motion of Councilmember Hill and second of Councilmember Brown, the council unanimously approved the Proclamation.

 

Item 2: Dr. Daniel Free from Tallassee City Schools was unable to attend the meeting but asked Mayor Hammock to tell the council how excited the Ag kids were for team up for cleanup.

 

Item 3: Andy Coker said that he had talked to Leslie about the CDBG grant and she would be emailing him a bid sheet and he will share with the council.

 

Item 4: Andy Coker gave the following update on code enforcement upgrades: Last time it was updated was 2005. He passed out the possible new updated ordinance and explained that the main difference was the updated fines.

 

Item 5: The property on Macedonia Road was discussed. Mayor Hammock suggested that Councilmember Hill work with the finance committee on this and see if they could work out a deal.

 

Item 6: Mayor Hammock reported on a number of additional items during the work session.

 

Item 7: Several councilmembers made reports.

  1. Councilmember Carr wanted to thank the Chief and staff for their quick response during the Jordanville incidence.
  2. Councilmember Hall stated that he was researching a clean community partnership program.
  3. Councilmember Brown attended Elmore County antilittering and said that it was a great way to come up with ideas to help with the littering issues.
  4. Councilmember Godwin wanted to say thanks for the littering signs.

 

Item 8: There being no further business before the council, and upon motion of Councilmember Hill and second of Councilmember Taunton, the council unanimously voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:20 p.m.
