MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA

APRIL 9, 2024

 

 

 

 

The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hill and the following were recorded as present:

John Smith was present as city attorney and Whitney Pitchford as secretary for the meeting.

 

Approval of minutes: On motion of Councilmember Hughey and a second by Councilmember Hall, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the March 12, 2024 work session. On motion of Councilmember Hughey and a second by Councilmember Taunton, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the March 12, 2024 regular city council meeting.

Item 1. The Sounds and Sirens music event April 27th was discussed. Eric Jones discussed the event and asked the Council to consider closing S. Ann from Barnett to James for the entire day of the event. This would allow everything to be set up for the event. Councilmember Hall made a motion to approve the closure of S. Ann from Barnett to James Street, seconded by Councilmember Taunton. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Item 2: The ALM Voting Delegate-add to next agenda.

Item 3: An Ordinance regarding grass was introduced and discussed. Councilmember Godwin made a motion to suspend the rules, seconded by Councilmember Taunton. Upon a roll call vote, the motion passed unanimously. Councilmember Godwin made a motion to adopt the Ordinance regarding grass, seconded by Councilmember Hall. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously. Ordinance 2024-691 was adopted.

Item 4: Recreation Department equipment was discussed. Councilmember Taunton made a motion to surplus the old Recreation Department equipment, seconded by Councilmember Godwin. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Item 5: Removed.

Item 6: 050-Retail Beer (off premises only) and 070-Retail Table Wine (off premises only) for Tallassee Y LLC was discussed. This is a name change only. Councilmember Godwin made a motion to approve the 050-Retail Beer (off premises only) and 070-Retail Table Wine (off premises only) for Tallassee Y LLC, seconded by Councilmember Hughey. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Mayor’s Reports:

*Copper and Lead-ADEM requirement: Discussed moving $10,000 from 03-516-5113 and $10,500 from 03-516-5240 to 03-516-5115 to cover the $20,194.25 for 120Water to complete the work. Councilmember Godwin made a motion to suspend the rules, seconded by Councilmember Taunton. Upon a roll call vote, the motion passed unanimously. Councilmember Godwin made a motion to move $10,000 from 03-516-5113 and $10,500 from 03-516-5240 to 03-516-5115 to cover the $20,194.25 for 120Water to complete the work needed to be in compliance with ADEM, seconded by Councilmember Hall. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

*Storm Shelters will be open tomorrow.

*Job fair at City Hall tomorrow from 9-1.

Council Reports

Ward 1: Grass on Hwy 14-get the guys to clean it up.

Ward 2: Thanks Chief Buce for your work on Gilmer. Thanks to Troy for always being on top of everything.

There being no further business before the council, and upon motion of Councilmember Taunton and a second by Councilmember Carr, all councilmembers present voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:07 p.m.
