MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING
OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA
MAY 14, 2024
The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hill and the following were recorded as present:

John Smith was present as city attorney and Whitney Pitchford as secretary for the meeting.
Approval of minutes: On motion of Councilmember Hughey and a second by Councilmember Carr, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the April 23, 2024 work session. On motion of Councilmember Hughey and a second by Councilmember Taunton, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the April 23, 2024 regular city council meeting.
Item 1. The Council and Mayor Hill discussed the options for the City’s tax collection and decided to table until the next meeting.
Item 2: James Garner handed out current project updates and discussed with Mayor Hill and Council.
Item 3: The Downtown dumpsters were discussed. The current issue is that nobody wants a dumpster by their store. All dumpsters would have to be enclosed and have a drain per regulations-building inspector to confirm. Mayor Hill asked James to get with CDG for ideas.
Mayor’s Reports:
*Discuss the May 28th Council Meeting. Councilmember Hall made a motion to cancel the May 28th meeting, seconded by Councilmember Carr. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.
*Discuss June and July meetings-wait until the month of meetings to make a decision.
*We received a 5.4 million dollar grant that will be used on the East Side for gas.
*Discuss July 5th-In the past, the City has give employees July 5th off. Councilmember Brown made a motion to give City employees July 5th as a holiday, seconded by Councilmember Hall. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.
*ESA is interested in leasing City land for a solar farm. $850/acre with an annual 2% escalator. Councilmembers were not interested.
*The City will pickup storm debris for no extra charge. One big pile by the road please.
*Finance Committee meeting June 11th @5PM.
Council Reports
Ward 1: Timberland apartments asked to put stuff in one location for pickup. Mayor Hill said that apartments need to utilize their own dumpsters.
Ward 5: Thanks to this administration for getting the new grant to help with the gas lines.
Ward 7: Mayor Hill is doing a great job! Talisi Historical Society is having a storytelling festival at the Log Cabin May 25 from 2:30PM-8:30PM. Tickets are available for $20/adult. Children are free with paid adults.
There being no further business before the council, and upon motion of Councilmember Taunton and a second by Councilmember Hall, all councilmembers present voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:25 p.m.
