MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA

JUNE 22, 2021

 

 

 

 

The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hammock and the following were recorded as present:

John Smith was present as city attorney and Whitney Pitchford as secretary for the meeting.

 

Mayor Hammock presented the minutes of the council work session held on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. There were no additions or changes. Upon motion of Councilmember Taunton and second by Councilmember Carr, the minutes were approved by a unanimous vote.

Item 1: Discussed the personnel board appointment in the work session. Councilmember Hill made a motion to appoint Linda Huey Williams, Steve Segrest and Steve Burak to the Personnel Board, seconded by Councilmember Hughey. The motion was approved by a unanimous vote.

 

Item 2: Councilmembers will continue working to find members for the BZA.

 

Item 3: Councilmember Brown talked with Sammy Hogan about serving on the Rec Board and she agreed. Councilmember Brown made a motion to appoint Sammy Hogan to the Rec Board seconded by Councilmember Hall, the motion was approved by a unanimous vote.

 

Item 4: Griff Pritchard discussed OneAppWay during the Work Session. Councilmember Taunton made a motion to suspend the rules, seconded by Councilmember Hill. Upon a roll call vote, all Councilmembers voted to suspend the rules unanimously. Councilmember Hill made a motion to approve the app for $75 a month for one year, seconded by Councilmember Hall. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

 

Item 5: Mayor Hammock reported on a number of additional items.

  1. Discussed a possible Bond for the gas line project during the work session. Councilmember Taunton made a motion for Mayor Hammock to get with Frazier Lanier to get the process started for a Bond for the gas line project, seconded by Councilmember Hill and a vote in favor by all.
  2. The Funtastic Fort was discussed and it has become a safety hazard. Griff Pritchard and the Rec Department had a few different playground plans available for the Council to look at. Councilmember Hughey made a motion to suspend the rules, seconded by Councilmember Hill. Upon a roll call vote the motion passed unanimously. Councilmember Hill made a motion to spend up to $20,000 on the new playground equipment, seconded by Councilmember Hughey and a vote in favor by all.
  3. The Resolution for the Hazard Mitigation Plan was discussed. Councilmember Hill made a motion to adopt the Resolution, seconded by Councilmember Carr. Upon a vote the motion passed unanimously. Resolution 2021-675 was adopted.
  4. Keep the Girls Ranch in your thoughts and prayers. Councilmember Hill made a motion to donate $500 from the Tallassee Organizations line item to the Girls Ranch, seconded by Councilmember Taunton and a vote in favor by all.
  5. Job Fair June 29th 6-8PM at the Rec Center.
  6. The Juneteenth Holiday was discussed and it will be added to the calendar by the Finance Committee for the next year.
  7. The ADECA visit went great.
  8. Sidewalk Sale June 26th from 8AM until 1PM in Downtown Tallassee.
  9. Good luck to the All-Stars!
  10. The Senior Center has reopened.
  11. PPP letters have gone out.
  12. The CDBG Resolution was discussed. Councilmember Hill made a motion to adopt the Resolution, seconded by Councilmember Brown. Upon a vote the motion passed unanimously. Resolution 2021-674 was adopted.

 

Item 6: Council Reports:

  1. Councilmember Taunton said that we should all do our part in making this a clean city. Great job to the limb truck! Prayers going to the Girls Ranch.
  2. Councilmember Hill said that her thoughts and prayers were going to the Girls Ranch. The baseball all-stars are going to Demopolis this week. Councilmember Hill made a motion to donate $300 to the 13-year-old baseball all-star team, seconded by Councilmember Brown and a vote in favor by all. Councilmember Taunton abstained from voting since his son is on the team. Thanks to CDG, Whatley Drive is looking great! The Tallassee Firefighters hosted an event at the high school and they had a great turnout. We need a hotel for things like this.
  3. Councilmember Hall-the first Keep Tallassee Beautiful will be July 10 from 8AM until 11AM. Set up will be at City Hall.
  4. Councilmember Hughey wanted to thank Councilmembers for voting in favor of updating the Funtastic Fort. Thoughts and prayers to the Girls Ranch.

 

Item 7: There being no further business before the council, and upon motion of Councilmember Hill and second of Councilmember Taunton, the council unanimously voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:38 p.m.
