MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA

JULY 12, 2022

 

 

 

 

The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hill and the following were recorded as present:

John Smith was present as city attorney and Whitney Pitchford as secretary for the meeting.

 

Approval of minutes: On motion of Councilmember Godwin and a second by Councilmember Hughey, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the June 28, 2022 work session. On motion of Councilmember Taunton and a second by Councilmember Carr, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the June 28, 2022 regular city council meeting.

Item 1. A one-time bonus for retirees was discussed. Councilmember Hughey made a motion to approve the one-time bonus of an estimated $10,470 for retirees, seconded by Councilmember Godwin. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously. Resolution 2022-229 was adopted.

Item 2. Hotel Talisi updates. Additional beams fell-Mayor asked Eric Jones to find companies wanting to bid on tearing down the Hotel and to make sure that CARPDC was in the loop.

Item 3. HDD services at all west side city properties was discussed. Councilmember Godwin made a motion to approve HDD services, seconded by Councilmember Taunton. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Item 4. Chief Buce discussed the Accident Review Board. The Police Department had a survey with AMIC and this was recommended for safety. We need to add this to our handbook. Councilmember Godwin made a motion to approve the Accident Review Board and for Chief Buce to handle it, seconded by Councilmember Hall. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

Mayor’s Reports:

  1. James Garner gave an update on all of the ongoing projects. Probably about 2-3 more weeks to get down Sistrunk Street. Keeping building owners updated.
  2. Tax free weekend is July 16th and 17th.
  3. 10U All-stars are going to the World Series.
  4. 15U All-stars are heading to Regionals.
  5. The building inspector interviews are completed-hoping to make a decision this week.
  6. The Ward 2 councilmember position is vacant. This will be on the next agenda.
  7. Jeff Harrison gave a progress report update.

Councilmember Godwin made a motion to proceed with Alternative 1, to rehabilitate the existing lagoon system, seconded by Councilmember Hall. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.

 

  1. Mr. 16Suns discussed the use of the city pool for public use.

 

Council Reports

Ward 6- Finance Committee meeting Monday, July 25th at 1PM.

There being no further business before the council, and upon motion of Councilmember Brown and a second by Councilmember Hall, all councilmembers present voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:35 p.m.
