MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING
OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA
JULY 9, 2024
The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hill and the following were recorded as present:

Fred Randall Hughey
John Smith was present as city attorney and Whitney Pitchford as secretary for the meeting.
Approval of minutes: On motion of Councilmember Hughey and a second by Councilmember Hall, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the June 25, 2024 work session. On motion of Councilmember Hall and a second by Councilmember Taunton, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the June 25, 2024 regular city council meeting.
Item 1. Eric Jones presented bid specs for the City Shop and asked Mayor Hill and Council for approval to advertise for 14 days. Councilmember Hall made a motion to approve the bid specs for the City Shop and to advertise in the paper, seconded by Councilmember Brown. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.
Item 2: Joann Wright and family of Michael Thompson addressed the Mayor and Council regarding Mr. Thompson’s missing status since April 2024.
Item 3: Mayor Hill and Councilmembers discussed updating the fireworks ordinance during the work session. Councilmembers suggested holding off for now.
Mayor’s Reports:
*Congrats to The Mill Collective and The Scoop, both are new businesses downtown.
*Tax free weekend is July 19-21.
*Bid openings for the CDBG demolition grant will be July 19th at 10AM.
Council Reports
Ward 3: Thanks to the Chief for the police escort with two funerals.
Ward 4: Business meeting the 23rd? Waiting on John Smith to confirm.
Ward 7: Asked James Garner for an update on the bridge by the old broom factory. James Garner said the current bridge was fine according to the county’s engineers.
There being no further business before the council, and upon motion of Councilmember Taunton and a second by Councilmember Hall, all councilmembers present voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:10 p.m.
