MINUTES OF A WORK SESSION

OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA

MARCH 23, 2021

 

The City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in a work session on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order and the following were recorded as present:

John Smith was present as city attorney and Whitney Pitchford as secretary for the work session.

 

The City Council of the City of Tallassee met in the city council chambers in a work session beginning at 5 p.m. on March 23, 2021. The meeting was called to order at 5 p.m. by Mayor Hammock with all council present.

 

First, the discussion of the March 9, 2021 city council meeting and work section. There were no corrections.

 

Next, the agenda for the March 23, 2021 city council meeting was discussed. Certain items were discussed in detail. The council discussed the property on Macedonia Road. Mayor Hammock suggested that Councilmember Hill work with the finance committee on negotiating the price of the property since he and Councilmember Hughey are distantly related to the owner of the property. This property would allow us to extend the Carrville Cemetery.

 

Mayor’s Reports:

  1. Saturday April 3rd at 11am opening ceremonies for Dixie Youth Baseball.
  2. Monday April 5th at 10am Congressman Barry Moore will be here at City Hall. He wants to do a Town Hall type setting to allow people to come in and ask him questions about what is going on in Washington DC.
  3. Saturday April 17th opening day girls softball at 10am
  4. Saturday April 24th is team up for cleanup.
  5. Monday May 24th here at City Hall from 6:30pm-8pm we will be having a visioning workshop with ADEM, Alabama Power, Auburn University, and the Community.
  6. Tallassee will get a relief package for $834,000. This can only be used on water/sewer or broadband projects. We should use this money to work on the downtown water tank and anything that is left over put towards SCADA system.
  7. The Laney Lift Station force main needs to be replaced. We are constantly replacing parts. Putting this out for bid and the bid opening will be April 15 at 2pm.

 

Councilmember Taunton made a motion to go into executive session, seconded by Councilmember Hall. Councilmember Hill made a motion to exit executive session, seconded by Councilmember Godwin.

 

On motion of Councilmember Hill and second of Councilmember Taunton, and a vote in favor by all other councilmembers, the meeting was adjourned at 5:53 p.m.
