MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING
OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA
JANUARY 28, 2025
The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor and the following were recorded as present:

Fred Randall Hughey
John Smith was present as city attorney and Whitney Pitchford as secretary for the meeting.
Approval of minutes: On motion of Councilmember Hughey and a second by Councilmember Taunton, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the January 14, 2025 work session. On motion of Councilmember Hughey and a second by Councilmember Brown, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the January 14, 2025 regular city council meeting.
Item 1. Mayor Hill presented the Human Trafficking Awareness Proclamation. Councilmember Hughey made a motion to approve the proclamation, seconded by Councilmember Carr. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously.
Item 2: Mayor Hill introduced an ordinance amending 2020-565 to include a fee for rezoning. Councilmember Taunton made a motion to suspend the rules, seconded by Councilmember Brown. Upon a roll call vote, the motion passed unanimously. Councilmember Taunton made a motion to adopt the ordinance amending 2020-565 to include a fee for rezoning, seconded by Councilmember Brown. Upon a vote, the motion passed unanimously. Ordinance 2025-694 was adopted.
Item 3: Mayor Hill and Council members recognized Ben Jones and Chris Worthington for getting their sewer certifications.
Item 4: Mayor Hill and Council members discussed CARPDC’s presentation regarding wards. Council members wanted to get Councilmember Hall and Councilmember Godwin’s opinions on this before making a decision.
Item 5: Rec Director Eric Phillips gave an update on the rec department members. Numbers are looking great!
Mayor’s Reports:
* Thank you to the water filter plant employees for keeping us with water to drip faucets this week.
*Thank you to the public works department for sanding the roads, fixing pipes and being on call throughout the snow/ice.
*Thank you to the police department and dispatchers for checking roads, ensuring safety and answering the calls.
*Thank you to the fire department for getting out and helping on the roads and assisting with MVAs.
*Elmore County spring cleanup weekend is April 4-6, 2025.
*February 26, 2025 is the last day for the council to change the salaries for officials who will be elected in August, current salary for Mayor is $25,000/year, council member $600/month.

Ward 7: Witnessed the public works working in the freezing cold weather. We appreciate yall!
There being no further business before the council, and upon motion of Councilmember Taunton and a second by Councilmember Carr, all councilmembers present voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:16 p.m.
