  MINUTES OF A REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

CITY OF TALLASSEE, ALABAMA

AUGUST 13, 2024

The Mayor and the City Council of the City of Tallassee, Alabama convened in regular session on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tallassee Municipal Complex. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hill and the following were recorded as present:

John Smith was present as city attorney and Whitney Pitchford as secretary for the meeting.

Approval of minutes: On motion of Councilmember Hughey and a second by Councilmember Carr, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the July 23, 2024 work session. On motion of Councilmember Hughey and a second by Councilmember Brown, all councilmembers present voted to approve the minutes of the July 23, 2024 regular city council meeting.

Item 1. Damages at the Jordanville Park were discussed. A car ran into the new fence and left the scene. We need to get cameras. Looking at a possible grant to help with this.    

Item 2: Thanks to Dr. Burak and Alabama Power, we received a $2500 grant to help with signs Downtown.          

Item 3: The amendment to Ordinance 2007-426 was discussed. Councilmember Taunton asked Mayor and Councilmembers if there was anyway that we could do 1/40^th of 1% for the schedule B portion of the ordinance. Mayor Hill said no, what we have introduced is already less than what the ALM recommends. Councilmember Hall made a motion to approve the ordinance, seconded by Councilmember Godwin. Upon a vote, Councilmembers Hall, Godwin, Carr, and Brown voted yea and Councilmembers Taunton, Mosher, and Hughey voted nay. The ordinance passed with a majority vote. Ordinance 2024-693 was adopted.

No reports.

There being no further business before the council, and upon motion of Councilmember Hall and a second by Councilmember Brown, all councilmembers present voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:07 p.m.
